Ray Montford's compositions are noted for their sense of texture, atmosphere and subtlety, and have added a lucid originality to many documentaries, films and TV series - two of which have either won or been nominated for major awards. In his 20 year career as a renowned Canadian composer, his style has remained unique and impossible to categorize, fusing jazz, rock, experimental, ambient, blues and world influences.
As a composer, producer and engineer, his musical and personal aesthetic provides creativity, meticulous attention to detail, intuition, flow, and a relaxed environment which consistently results in inspired studio performances from all who work with him. He enjoys and prefers using organic instrumentation whenever possible, adding a rare honesty and emotional depth to each project.
